The youtube guy has responded...not sure if its helped or not
@spillmill When you say push in part, do you mean the light in its entirety pushes into the cavity or the side of the light pushes in, the opposite side tilts out and then you can grab it to pull it out?

@alwaystrying1 the second one - it still pops out.
I used the tool as above to unclip the trim. Then connected from the back.
You can actually remove the whole trim if you want (but you will need to remove the bolt behind the SRS cover). But you can access the light with just easing the trim.

Also I need to eat my words on the fitting of the strip. When I was trying to fit it before I had misinterpreted where the light was coming from on the strip. So I was trying to fit it in the wrong orientation. This made it very bulky and not sitting easily below the rubber. Having now illuminated it I realise how to fit it in behind the rubber trim and it doesn't foul the rear shelf. So all fitted. Going to see what it is like in the dark and might experiment with it on the bottom trim rather than the top, but happy for now.
Hopefully this is all some help.

For some reason I was getting a bee in my bonnet about not being able to see the charging port when plugging in darkness. Fitted a little battery led light. Plenty of illumination and easy to switch. We shall see how long it lasts.
