How to drive an electric car economically

So I am 800 miles in, and did a 50 mile motorway trip on Thursday where I used the ACC…..
It accelerated harsher than I would and braked harder than me….. but returned 27kw per 100 miles when I average around 30….

So, my question is…. Has anybody got any factual evidence to say what style of driving is best for electric….?

Does it matter if you accelerate quickly or slowly….

Thoughts?

I found the breaking also pretty harsh - hope that can be reviewed in later software updates!

I guess it’s not so much the harsh acceleration/ breaking that matters but more the fact the car itself is trying to be economical and that we, its occupants, are not trying to control it.

My guess is if we drove it the same way as ACC does we wouldn’t match the 27kWh/100m returns.

Being as smooth as possible, keeping the speed low and using opd is probably your best bet. Temperature has an impact too but there is not much you can do about that.

Just drive it like you would a car, normally - if you were worried about mileage you'd have bought a hybrid.
People getting all worked up about range and range anxiety - life moves on.

Well, it’s nice to know you can get to work and back without a charge sometimes 😄

I agree though that we went thru the above when looking for our car and in the end decided we wanted something we would enjoy owning and driving.

We did look at Audis and the sales person did say something funny - we think range anxiety is just for EV but they said if you have a hybrid you then get caught up in trying to make every trip electric so you don’t have to spend more £££ on fuel.

Can’t win either way 🤣

When I drove petrol, I tried to drive really economically.

Now I don't care as it is so much cheaper using a home charger. I bought a SMER to give me all the range that I would need on a daily basis, and have never had to recharge anywhere except at home when I am returning home each night.

BUT - when I am on long multi-day trips away I need to use a DC charger at 70p or 80p per kWh. These costs make an EV more expensive to run than an ICE on these journeys. Then I like to drive efficiently.

Worth seeking out or navigating via Tesla Superchargers for when you need that DC charge. Depends on time of day but can be around 42-54p and they are very quick too, provided you charge to around 80% each time.

I have to admit with the EX30 you don't have to worry much about range.

I have a fun story. I also have a Renault Twizy I got when I still had my ICE, and I did a big trip to a Twizy meeting. It was 230km one way and with a 6kWh battery and no fast charger (2,2kW max on 230V home socket) I tried to travel as far/efficient as possible because charging took longer than driving it empty :D
Driving normally you get 50km per charge and driving under speed limit and as efficient as possible I did around 75km per charge.

It was fun to do it once, but I wouldn't do it again.

I’m not sure that sounds much fun even once.

Don’t have range anxiety or worry about mileage… just sometimes I want to see how economical I can drive it and other times I drive it like I stole it….. they balance each other out…😂
