"The most worrying thing as a programmer is that even in this thread there are statements that suggest not all EX30 are the same even if at the the same rev level." (bigloaf)
A few months ago I posted a query: how was it that although all EX30s basically have identical hardware and identical software, they all get different bugs, and they don't all get bugs.
A reply was posted that this is normal for Android, and that even identical Android phones get different bugs.
I am not a software expert, but I still can't understand it either. I too thought the same software in the same hardware in the same circumstances should produce the same results.
Yes phones are different, we all have hundreds of different apps loaded in our phones, so they are not all identical, even if they are the same model - but there are not that many apps available on the Android Automotive app store, so our cars should be more or less identical, but they clearly react differently to the software on occasions, so I am still baffled.
I still love my car though. No regrets at all on buying it. No regrets at all on buying it early before all the software gliches are ironed out either (not that I have had many problems).
I want a list of settings
Anyway any user installed app should not interfere with the system functioning and cause bugs.
This isn't acceptable for a possibly critical system like a car!
A possible explanation is that the hardware components actually aren't identical in all model variants.
Over time, many electronic devices have more than 1 hardware revision.
Not to speak about possible different suppliers of the same hardware components (common in the electronic industry).
For ex. the different displays used in the same smartphone model.

I’m sure what you are saying is true. With a system as complex as a car these days ensuring consistency within the control system components must be a bit of a nightmare. Then to do updates OTA is amazing as the potential risks are high. Saying that, Tesla have been doing it for a while now and I haven’t heard of any going crazy or being bricked. The biggest variable is with the mobile app as the hardware and software that is running on is obviously outside of Volvos control. Looks like that is where many of the problems are at the moment but I think ‘bugs’ and inconsistencies in the actual car control system may be something we have to learn to live with. As long as they only impact non safety critical systems and affect a small number of users it should be manageable.

I agree that the installed software shouldn't interfere with the car's software, I was just wondering about the possibility.
I hadn't thought of the possibility of Volvo (or even a sub-contracted supplier) using components sourced from different suppliers that had different specs.

I think that bugs and inconsistencies in the car control system are unacceptable regardless of how many are affected.

My phone is messaging me saying a new update is available
This forum suggests that rev 1.4.2 is available
The volvo support UK data also says 1.4.2
The car tells me I have to update the download using the app on my phone
The phone app on the Car software page shows 'Automatic software downloads disabled' see screengrab
How do I proceed ?

White, extended range, single little motor - weird software.
Thanks for that Ste007 but my screen shows 1.4 with no options
I think maybe my vehicle ID has not yet been added to the release
I find it strange that somewhere on my screen it said I had to update via the App and yet here you are saying you did it direct from the dash screen
It doesn't fill me with confidence that anyone ever flow-charted this system.
