I have a question about the key cards, which hopefully someone can answer. I understand that two come with the car and can be used independently to gain entry. To start the car the key card has to be placed on the card reader. Does that card have to stay on the card reader once the vehicle has been started or can it be moved so that you can use the card reader to charge a phone wirelessly? Or is it a case that it has to be left there and use the USB-C port to charge the phone with a wire.
Thanks
Key Cards
I am sure that once the car is in Drive the key card can be removed...I have a the Key tag so don't use the key card. I was able to negotiate two Key Tags in the deal, one each for my wife and i...

I only ever use the key card. (My wife uses the key fob - and it has never failed to work for her - except for one occasion, when she had to just touch the inside of the drivers door handle once to get it to open.) She also has the other key card as well.
Once you have unlocked the car, put the card in the holder. Put the car in 'D'. Then you can remove the key card from the holder and put it wherever you like (in your pocket, anywhere). Then you can put the phone on to charge and drive away.
ie - the card goes in the holder to start the car by putting it into "D" from "N", not to drive it.
Once it is in "D", it doesn't need the key card in place to move between "D", "P" and "R".
You will only need to put the key card in the holder again to restart the car if you have parked the car and opened the door.

I’ve the Core, so key cards only and no wireless charging. Said that, putting the card between phone and case works like charm to open/close the car and start it putting the phone in the card key sensors.

Hi - my experience so far is; the key card has to be placed in the dock until you engage reverse or drive AND begin to move. After that it is "started". The frustration that I have with that is that if you want to put your phone on charge, you can only do the move-card-replace-with-phone shuffle once you are moving, which is unsafe. It's pretty dumb. Obviously, if there TWO charge points this would not be a problem. And you can't put the phone on top of the card as it doesn't work/can't detect two devices at once.
The key card "solution" is a fiasco and Volvo should be a bit embarrassed about it. They should have given out TWO fobs per car until the digital key/phone solution is implemented.

True - I could, but I shouldn't have to. The car is advertised with digital key (and Apple Car Play, etc) and so the dealers should step in an provide owners with a solution that works , at their cost, until the phone solution is out there. I think it's pretty lame...

The main problem is that most Android phones are NOT compatible with Digital Key +
