Note too that aerodynamically the Volvo is much worse than the Tesla.

Hate to agree, but you're absolutely correct.
As a former EV owner I was fully aware of the difference between theoretical and realistic mileage and how these numbers change under varying weather, road and driving conditions prior to buying my EX30.
A little bit of research would show that with few exceptions, most EV's never reach these maximum distances. That being said, the range of the EX30 is totally adequate for my Canadian suburban lifestyle with affordable electricity, covered garage and home charger. Reduced cost of travel and maintenance were the determining factors for me.

Sorry, I think what I should have said was "I cannot possibly see what they can do, other than give you a refund" ie I don't think there is any technical solution. The only possible solution to the problem is to get the person out of the car - which I happen to also think will never happen.
Hi from Montreal, Canada.
I have now owned my EX30 Ultra Performance for 1265 kms and have been fighting with the dealer and Volvo Canada/USA because my car has never shown a range available of more than 288 kms. Due to the winter they are all telling me that its expected to be between 250 and 300 Kms. I have been emphatic that this is totally in acceptable. The car has a 69kwt battery and is advertised at 420 kms range. I will not let this go!! I wrote to them again and told them that I may decide to first go to the Government Transport agency, next the legal route, if they do not do something for me. I would not have purchased the car if I was told that the max I would get was 288 kms.
I have a second car (Tesla Model Y with a 64kwt battery rated at 404 kms range) that regularly give me 387 kms under the exact same conditions. Something is definitively wrong with the Volvo.

Curiously the other day on a long trip, I coincided up to 3 times at the Tesla Superchargers with two guys in a Model Y. My deduction is that in the end the consumptions are very similar in reality. Anyway, in my case, I think it is difficult to know what the maximum autonomy is because except for the first sections where I go to 100%, I never charge much more than 80% on a trip and I do not go below 10% so that 70% is about 45kW which is not enough for more than 220 km on the highway. Extrapolating data to my data, it would come out from 100% to 0% about 320 km now in winter at 120 kmh. In summer it can go up to 330-340 depending on the wind or the inclination of the road. In line with what the tests on the EV database website include. Tesla is longer and more "mussel shape" so it's not that beauty(for me) but theorically a bit more eficient. As EV database said(first is Model Y, second EX30
EX30 Plus. Vapour Grey-Pine. Single Motor Extended Range. V 1.4.2 (Spain)
I am currently in a disagreement with my Dealer and the Volvo HO regarding the fact that my Volvo EX30 Ultra Performance (Purchased Nov 22, 24, 1300 kms) has only attained a max range of 288kms (180 miles) with a 100% charge. I live in Montreal, Canada and I know that the winter cold will affect my range, however, my Tesla MY has a smaller battery (60kwts) and gives me 380kms (239miles). The EX30 was advertised to get 410 kms. I have spoken to Volvo many times and have written to the HO. I have been told to wait for spring and summer and the range will increase. They also told me that i shouldn't expect more than 300kms. This is unacceptable to me.
I would like to know if there any of you out there with a similar 2 motor Ultra Performance that have similar issues. Preferably if you live in Quebec, but regardless whether in Europe or Canada I'd like to understand if this is a Volvo issue or my car only.
I'd even gladly have a call or email exchange with any of you.

Sounds about right to me based on Volvos calculator

I have the single motor. In uk winter my range for 100% charge is about 210 miles but that’s driving very gently and cruising at no more than 65mph. If you drive less gently, in colder conditions, and with the twin motor, I can fully expect 180 is all you will get. May be worse also if you have winter tires?
My observation is that the cold temps adversely affect the ex30 more than most EVs - not sure if it’s the heating or the motor itself.
In the uk this week we had a warmer day (15c) and my range for that day was closer to 240 miles.
(But I do agree with you, the advertised figure is misleading but it’s calculated under lab conditions which the ex30 seemingly does well in)

I'm in Canada (New Brunswick) and can vouch for dismal Winter range.
EX30 Twin Performance "Plus"
Winter Tires / wheels from Volvo, properly inflated to recommended pressure
I travelled from Truro, NS to Moncton NB (186 km = 115 miles) about a month ago
Temperature was on the cold side -15C (5F)
clear calm day, no significant wind
roads were bare
was charged at 100% at the hotel, indicated 260 km range at departure
driving 110 km/h on cruise control all the way
heating set at 20C, my son and myself on board, couple of carry-on suitcases, nothing heavy
Range estimator started going down quicker than distance left
hit 0% state of charge at 183 km, 3 km short of the charging station, made it in on the buffer. This was with gradually slowing down to 100, then 90 then 85 as I was realizing that the car wouldn't make it, turning off AC during the last 20 or so km.
183 km from 100% to Zero. Highway driving.
I've seen over 350 km to a charge in warmer weather (got the car in Sept 2024, so weather was fair, not hot). Huge hit in Wintertime.
