The website will probably crash as 3,000,000 EV owners all try to do it at the end of the March. If the Government don't get it fixed in time many EV owners will miss out and the Government will get millions of pounds in extra revenue.

I am going to do mine right at the start of March just in case.

Just done mine. Took less than 5 minutes. Just need your registration and your V5 Log Book.

Just ignore all the warnings and click through and works perfectly. Mine was due 1st May 25, but is now due 1st Mar 26, so I saved £162.50 which is a bit of a result for 4 mins work. And means Rachel from accounts is getting less of my money so makes me very pleased indeed!

I did mine on 1st March, due 1st May 2025 so got an extra 10 months VED at £0. Fully expected the site to be slow or unavailable but all went through smoothly and quickly, email acknowledgement received within minutes. I would definitely recommend anyone with an EV to renew their VED this month even if there is less than a year remaining. Takes minutes, can save up to £195 and you have until the end of March to get it done.

And the savings don't end now, they will keep on coming.

Every time the rate of VED goes up, the rise always takes place on 1 April.

So every year the rate of VED is increased, anyone who renewed in March 2025 will be renewing their VED one month before the VED rise, always getting 11 months at the old rate - for as long as they keep the car (which in my case may be a very long time).
