It seems to me that some markets have internet connectivity from the vehicle, and some do not. Here in South Africa we have connectivity insofar as being able to make emergency calls or activate the chat function, and for Google to use online maps - apart from OTA updates, of course.
But, the google can not show traffic information, it seems. The youtube app also cannot connect using the car's own connection, and requires connection to a wifi hotspot.
Is this true for all markets? Put differently, exactly what internet functionality is available in the car? I would understand if one cannot consume data for youtube, for example, because that is not prime functionality, nor required for the vehicle to operate properly. But it seems to me that traffic information in the google maps should be available at least?
Clarify internet connectivity, please?

In the uk the data connection works like a full mobile data connection. So as well as the car core systems more trivial things like internet searching and YouTube also work over the same connection.

In Spain, the connection is, at the very least, unreliable. If the times that Spotify fails to connect correspond to connectivity failures... then the connectivity is very random. One out of every three times I get in the car, Spotify does not connect. I don't know if it is something with the app or the connectivity.

I've received feedback from Volvo support that full internet access is something they are working on and trying to establish in the South African market. It cannot be gauranteed at this stage, but at least there seems to be some effort into getting it fully functional.
Volvo customer support is very good here in South Africa, speedy replies to emails always with concise feedback.
