You can use one of them. The red one is for the rain sensor (see in your picture on the left side) and the green one is for the dimming mirror. You only need one!

Hey all - thanks largely to this thread I bought a FitcamX for my wife's new EX30 and installed it w/o any hassle.
I was a bit surprised to discover it doesn't have GPS - I thought all dashcams >$100 would have that as the part cost these days is just a few dollars! (I admit I didn't read the specs in detail; the idea that this fit into an EX30 as if it was factory-built was always going to be the determining factor!)

Now from what I understand it can record after sensing an impact while parked - but only if powered while the car is off. Which, I gather, does not happen when you run a wire from the mirror... is there a straightforward means of getting power up to the camera without digging into the fusebox or etc?

I haven’t done this, but I saw someone had run a cable down from the Dashcam to a small power bank which was then plugged into the usb C outlets. So when the car is in use it would charge the power bank, and when the car was off it would run off the battery.

Your other options would be to connect it to the odb port (Belkin sell an odb to usb adapter) but I dunno if you are risking flattening the battery!

That's a nifty idea, but my wife is pretty firmly against any visible cabling in her new shiny toy! (to be fair, my installation of dashcams on her previous car probably could have been tidier...) If there's nothing up at the top of the windshield that gets power while the car is off, I'd probably have to splice into the rear camera cable or something else equally risky...

I already have one of those, actually, and I wouldn't worry about draining the battery. (assuming here we're talking about a standard 12V lead-acid battery in the car somwhere? I don't know if the Volvo even uses one; I know my old iMiev did, as it needed something that could bring the high-voltage system online)

A dashcam at idle would take months to dent the power reserve of a car battery. And many, many years to even touch the amount of power stored in the main pack!

Note if you leave the car in “parking comfort mode” it stays on and you can lock the doors. The dashcam also stays on this case.
Useful if you’ve parked for a short while and want to keep it running.

Great pictures! Still to do my Nextbase install. Being lazy at present and still using the old one just in the front.

Hi all,

Thanks to this forum, I installed fitcamx to my car. Took 10minutes in total for front. No rear for me. . Super pleased. Thanks again to everyone who has contributed here.

Why did you connect the dashcam to a power bank and not to the Type C of the car?

Today I installed a FITDVR adapter to supply USB power to my Nextbase dashcam.
https://fitdvr.com/collections/volvo
£29 including delivery from China (took just over a week) isn't cheap but a simple and neat solution.
Installation takes about 15 minutes and involved pulling off the plastic surround behind the rear view mirror using the supplied tool, then plugging the device into the wiring for the dimming mirror.
Very tidy and no need to worry about hiding the wires or tapping into a fusebox. All hidden behind the mirror.
Only disadvantage is it doesn't support parking mode so the dashcam will turn off when the car is turned off.
