Key Cards

The issue with the car not recognising the proximity fob immediately does seem to be an issue due to the proximity of the fob. Works fine when I park at work but often doesn’t work when on the drive at home. If I put the fob into a metal box at home then the car recognises the fob when I approach. If I leave the fob out of the tin for an hour or so then the fob is not detected until I put my hand behind the drivers door handle.

So I tested this a bit more last night. Came home and put keys straight in tin. This morning it recognised the proximity key on approach. No need to wake the car up by putting my hand behind the drivers handle. This is the first time that has worked first thing in the morning.

Mine does seem to be getting better - at times. It's now occasionally unlocking approaching the passenger side.

I totally agree with your point about this being embarrassing. It's 2024 and the key card solutions is dreadful, key tag is half a solution (and only one is provided, so far)

The frustration that I have with that is that if you want to put your phone on charge, you can only do the move-card-replace-with-phone shuffle once you are moving, which is unsafe. It's pretty dumb. Obviously, if there TWO charge points this would not be a problem. And you can't put the phone on top of the card as it doesn't work/can't detect two devices at once.
The key card "solution" is a fiasco and Volvo should be a bit embarrassed about it. They should have given out TWO fobs per car until the digital key/phone solution is implemented.
I was pleasantly surprised when I picked my car up and my salesman gave me two key fobs. I did negotiate one in the purchase, so it was a bonus to get given two. I have to say the after sales service from my dealership so far is quite poor and not encouraging us nearer to an XC40 purchase...I know I keep going on about BMW, but they have been the best for the complete ownership process from purchase through to after sales, they have just unfortunately made themselves too expensive for my pocket...I will add that I am really enjoying the EX30 so far, especially the running costs.
