Hi Harald, interesting that you come from Japanese cars to this Volvo. I too never really got the Volvo/Saab thing although I did admire the different take on what is a fairly common set of requirements. I have recently been a BMW/MB fan but like you came to the EX30 really by chance. It does feel like a Japanese car to me in many ways, probably revealing its Asian roots. For us it’s an excellent second car which we use far more than our other larger conventional car for two reasons really. It’s cheaper/less polluting at point of use and it is just nicer to be in and drive.

Today is the day I ordered a car from a brand I never thought I could afford.

At 41 years old and 19 years after my first car purchase, I ordered a car from what we call here in Greece a luxury brand. For many, this might seem insignificant, but for me, it means everything.

As you know, inflation is ridiculous here in Greece while wages remain stable, which limits my budget. However, my daughter is coming soon, and I want to provide her with the best possible environment, so I had to replace my old car.

After careful consideration, I was between the Volvo ex30 and the BYD Atto 3, which is 5K cheaper, but Volvo won my heart at the finish line. The car is almost ready to be delivered because someone canceled their order. This changes the viability of my purchase because it places me in a good position to get the government subsidy (they have a plan offering up to 11K for buying an electric vehicle and unregistering your old one). The funds for this plan are limited, and people rushed to get EV cars.

So, after everything, we are getting an EX30 Plus gray single motor at 29K euros. I could not afford anything else. Wish me luck, and hopefully, I won't experience all these software bugs people are reporting.

You’re gonna love it. We’ve had ours for a couple of months now and it’s the best car I’ve ever driven (and I’ve driven cars 3 times it’s price).

Congratulations and a good choice I think. We continue to be impressed with ours and haven’t experienced any significant problems with the software or other systems on the car.

When I answered your first question, I felt I couldn't push you towards the EX30 due to the rear seat/boot space, and I didn't know how much space you felt you would need. (There are plenty of parents manage perfectly well with small cars, many with less space than the EX30.)

I am glad you went for the EX30 and hope you get as much pleasure out of your car as my wife and I do out of ours. We both think it is the best car we have ever owned.

Yes, there are a number of people here reporting bugs, but there are not that many compared with the number of cars sold. And let's face it, no-one who is happy with their purchase decides to join a forum to say so. Normally the silent majority stay silent, and we hear much more from the dissatisfied minority, who naturally don't stay silent. It's just human nature.

I have only had one bug and it hadn't spoiled the experience for me at all.

Hopr all goes well for you.

Hi Pointyhat and great news that you made up your mind and purchased the Volvo. I came from BMW to Volvo which I also regard as a relatively premium brand. One of main reasons for switching brands was that BMW have priced themselves out of my financial reach for the time being. I know some of the materials in the EX30 are recycled but the overall feel and drive quality in my opinion is streets ahead of VW, Skoda and the French brands. Ok I would have loved the build quality and fit/ finish of BMW but the EX30 would have probable been a £50k plus vehicle. Overall I am very happy with the first three weeks of ownership and I am sure you will be equally as impressed when you get your car. All the best.👍🏻

We got our car around the end of March. For a couple of months, various things really annoyed me and (when asked in a survey from Volvo) I said there's no way I'd recommend the car. I added the car was great but the software was very poor and seemingly untested. The maps and navigation didn't work. At times the maps continuously spun around on the display as the car tried to find where it was. The radio muting was annoying, the alarms and warnings were annoying - and the lack of CarPlay extremely annoying.

Now, following a couple of software updates, it all seems to have settled down. I'm now really enjoying driving the car and most of the annoying things have been fixed or circumvented. I think the only thing we are left with, that needs to be fixed, is the lack of Apple CarPlay. Volvo have acknowledged that and upheld my formal complaint. If I was asked by Volvo now, I would recommend the car.

To be fair, I really loved the space in Atto 3, but the heritage of Volvo made me lean towards it. Also the build quality and the feeling driving the car was unparalleled. Since we live in Greece many roadtrips end up to a beach and I am pretty sure that I will have to tetris our things out, but it is something I am ok right now with. You are right about the silent majority.

I work in software development, and I don't know why they approached the car's software development with such a rush. What they did is "test in production," which is the worst way to test. Maybe they wanted to capture market share from Chinese companies entering EU markets. I mean, when you buy a Volvo, you expect every aspect of it to be at a certain level of quality.

Anyway, I totally agree with the general opinion that the reported bugs are a fraction of all the bug-free users.

Mine arrived today. I love it. Coming from a Model 3 the car is great and I’m very happy.
