Phantom acceleration on braking...

Sometimes when I break gently, it is as if the brakes release with pressure on the brake pedal, and car has a bizarre mini surge in power, before the brakes then reengage...It hasn't caused anything dangerous yet, it is just a little unnerving when it happens...I might have read about this on the forum sometime ago, but it would great to hear if others have experienced this and perhaps had the problem resolved? You would think it would be impossible for a car to temporarily slightly increase in power, unless the wheels were locking, but this is on dry roads under slight braking? This is a new intermittent problem, which is happening more often and I need to get it looked at...🤔

I’ve had phantom acceleration twice when leaving parking spaces at very low speed, stamping on the brakes stops it but it’s scary when it happens. Fortunately, it has never happened when braking.

Hi, I think what you are feeling is the transition from regenerative braking and traditional braking. I get this at a particular junction that has a bump about 10m from the stop. That is a stop from 60 so quite firm braking. The car seems to detect a lock up of the rear regen braking and switches off the regen effort. This moves the brake balance forward quickly which feels like a slight release of the brakes for a moment. Would not have thought you would feel it at slow speeds with gentle braking though.

Thanks Geoff and andrewollason, I will monitor it, but I like the technical explanation and it has never felt at all dangerous. I guess as it is my first electric car it is a new experience and probably nothing to worry about...It almost certainly has happened during regenerative braking when applying the physical brakes...Mind almost put at ease👍🏻

I get this issue a lot at roundabouts and feel that it is only time until it causes someone to crash (if it hasn't happened already).

Exactly the same as what Andrew says, whenever I go over a decent bump whilst braking in one pedal mode it stops the regen braking and I have to physically push the brake pedal quite firmly. The acceleration I guess is because it's switching from one pedal driving in braking position to acceleration position in two pedal driving, not good.

I don’t use OPD as I prefer two pedal. In general I find the ex30 brakes pretty good. Especially as they have integrated regen and traditional braking into the brake pedal.
