Well yes. And well no. My two- penneth here is thus (and please MO1, this is not directed at you, more at what some others have posted)

It is perfectly reasonable to express your opinion, provided you are respectful of other people's opinion.

I like my car and get on with it. So do many other people. This doesn't mean we are morons, or idiots, or talking sh1t, it just means, well, we bought a car and quite like it.

Someone else - like you for example - is having a bad experience. That doesn't mean that you are stupid or ignorant or jaded or whatever. It just means you have a car and for whatever reason you don't like it and have problems with it.

The general purpose of these forums is to share information to help each other out. This might be to share a problem or - or for those who are looking to buy - to share a general opinion on the vehicle.

Now compared to the VOC forum, I must admit I find this forum a bit more edgy and at times, borderline abusive, but there are more users over here than on the VOC one, so it is ultimately more useful.

Personally if we all just shared issues with the vehicles, shared positive experiences also and respected each others opinions then it would be a far better place here.

If you agree, please say. If you don't then please let me know and I will go back over to the VOC forum and sulk.

The problem is if the fault is intermittent the dealer can’t locate it.

The fob on mine works some of the time, even most of the time, but if the car has been left overnight the chances are the fob won’t work, sometimes pulling the door handle works, sometimes swiping the fob on the door pillar and sometimes opening the boot but today nothing worked and I had to use the app to unlock the car. After that the fob worked as it should. Incidentally, I keep the fob in a metal box, but Volvo have never told me that is necessary. I changed the battery about a month ago when the car displayed a low battery level warning, but the new battery made no difference to the fob operation.

The climate control is pretty useless, the car heats up if the set temperature is high enough but then the fan speed increases and blows cold air. It doesn’t really control the climate at all, although in the summer the A/C is fine. The car also mists up very easily if the weather is damp. And in the back heating and ventilation is non-existent by design.

I’ve never had to reset the screen, but the navigation is sometimes lost and indicates I’m driving in the fields 500 meters away.

The random emergency braking is exactly that, random and always for no reason whatsoever. The spontaneous acceleration has only occurred a couple of times after being parked and has nothing to do with one pedal drive or ACC. Neither braking nor acceleration can be induced deliberately.

The driver alerts ‘take a break’, ‘focus on the road’ etc are also completely random and never due to the driver being tired or not paying attention.

The speed limit indication is often wrong and the adapt to speed limit cruise control cannot be used.

The car has a mind of its own, and it’s unpredictable.

Hi Geoff I agree with all that, the random emergency braking can be unnerving, to date it has only happened when I haven't had a vehicle behind me...When I take my car in to get the Mirror repaired I am going to mention the random emergency braking as it is becoming more regular...All these gremlins are now becoming a way of life and my wife and I are getting used to the 'What mood was the car in today...' conversations.🤣 I will add though that it continues to drive really well and I am enjoying most of the experience, apart from the gremlins...

I agree with you PF EX30, this forum is generally very well mannered with most users being able to see both sides. Occasionally some strong views are aired which I generally put down to frustration more than anything else.
Always good to mind one’s manners though.

I might not have reacted if the thread title had been ‘I ignored the nay sayers on YouTube and got this car’ but it wasn’t and I will always respond when someone gives poor advice.

if you are considering purchasing a EX30 DON’T ignore the nay sayers, read all the reviews you can, good and bad. The few issues that the OP listed are by far the least significant of the things this car can suffer from. If we are honest even after several OTA updates the software is still not fit for purpose. And if you think an Ultra spec car will be well equipped listen to what the Volvo CEO says – it’s minimalist. And what there is might not work very well, if at all. Or it might be the perfect car for you.

All the reviews I saw on YouTube were all about testing the car and complaining about things like adjusting the mirrors or the speedo in the middle. I didn't see any reviews complaining about some of the real world gremlins people report on here (like random reboots, heating issues, not locking, or whatever) What the OP was saying was that all the inconveniences pointed out in YouTube reviews were really not a problem for him. That was the thrust of the thread. Unless of course I have completely missed a whole load of YouTube reviews where they test the car and point out a whole number of failures?

My experience is absolutely satisfactory, except like some users, some software deficiencies or not very well resolved UI: Android Auto and Digital Key. Small fonts on the UI (so, so small). Lack of customizable shortcuts e.g. to fog lights.

I have had no big problems with the FOB key and ADAS so far.
I know that some drivers behind you are sometimes bothered by the brake light continually activating with Pilot Assist when there is somewhat heavy traffic. It's something I can't verify directly, but friends who were driving behind me have told me about it. Maybe it's inevitable

...and I regret not having bought the Twin Engine version for a small economic plus. Not because of the power, but because of the 4x4 traction. I come from a 4x4 and I have missed it.

If you watch the video closely, you can see that Vicky crossed the center line without using the blinker. The car steers (and brakes because she is speeding in the turn) the car back between the lines. This is nothing strange and other newly marketed cars do as well. So if you just drive between the lines you are not affected by this or you turn off the steering assist.

I really like tiff and vicki and respect their work, but i guess they are getting old and kinda dumb.

As i f* despise the lane keep assist and the other ex30 driving assists, that's the expected behaviour. They are on a very narrow bend, at some speed, constantly moving from one lane to another without blinker. That is the expected behaviour, and if other cars don't do that, their lane keep assist isn't working.

Why didn't they turn it off and test the car as intended? Is the thing called fifth gear or whining gear?
