I have owned a 2023 model Y for two years and just got a 2025 ex30. The Y replaced a 2018 1st gen model 3 that I owned for 4 years. So I have a pretty good idea of the differences between the model 3 and the ex30.

They are different. full stop. Easily competitors for a purchase but different. Each one does some things better. The Teslas have better integration with some things (fold mirrors on arriving at home, homelink, tracking of charge usage,, and so on) but in the early days of the model 3 there was not much.

In those days every single week was an update with more goodies - one day I suddenly had dash cam with the onboard cameras, then later that extended to sentry. They figured out how to determine which key was in the driver seat and which in the passenger to load the correct profile - flakey at first, but got better with further updates.

The ex30 is still pretty new. OTA updates are bound to give us more goodies and refinements. The model three has had many years to settle it out but is still learning. A month ago I got rear cross traffic alerts which Volvo has had for many years.

So the feature set on the ex30 is still being defined. but for basic drivability and FUN drivability, the are pretty equal. I've had just as much laughs and smiles in the past week of ex30 driving as i've had in a week of model 3 driving when I first got it.

Some like the model 3 better, some the ex30. I happen to enjoy driving both. But that's just me.

Welcome Devonian. I think you made a good choice. I don’t use the opd myself as I prefer the automatic style creep around town. Due to the electronic braking system in the ex30 there isn’t much difference in efficiency between opd and standard modes. Nice option to have though for those that like the opd style.

Zaphod, that is a very fair comment. The EX30, T3 and Y are all very nice cars. There are plenty other nice EV’s out there too so we are spoiled for choice really. I’m sure every one has its own little foibles which may annoy the owner but that’s cars for you really. All part of the fun.
