Apple Car Play and replying to messages

So, 1.4.2 installed a few weeks ago and using with an iPhone 12 and iOS 18.0.1

After the initial glitches getting the phone and CarPlay set up - the music side of things is working great.

What is not, and I'm sure I'm not the only one facing this issue, is that while incoming text messages are read aloud and are working fine, responses are not. Whatever the response message, once dictated is, clipped the pain there is no message to confirm beyond the first syllable - which is infuriating.

Anyone else experienced this? Much as I want to use CarPlay for music I can't if it means I have to sacrifice message responses.

Any insight welcomed here.

There’s an issue with CarPlay when using iOS 18.x. CarPlay notifications aren’t coming through to the car Home Screen for me on iOS 18.x. However, iOS 17.x works fine.

Before anyone says, “Have you tried this or that ….” I’ve spent a lot of time with my local dealer identifying the causes of this issue and it’s related to the iOS differences.

I currently have a ticket raised with Volvo technical on it. Will update you when I have more to share.

Thank you - thank you - I did wonder if going to the latest iOS might be the culprit here so great that you have identified this already.

I'll hope for a swift resolution - so do please keep me posted - meanwhile I'll contemplate reverting back to iOS 17.x

Are there any updates on this issue with iOS 18? I just bought this car and cannot reply to or initiate text with apple carplay without the system glitching. Hoping there is a solution soon as this is very important functionality for me.

Add me as well, plus I can’t hear a caller when taking a call, they can hear me though. Weirdly, when a call comes in my screen switches out of CarPlay back to the home screen. And the CarPlay maps app has GPS issues and bounces my location all over the place. It was fine on v1.43, beta 1.52 has broken it and Volvo say I can’t go back to 1.43.

The stealer and Volvo authorised a software update to fix CarPlay. I was on 1.52 and the car came back showing 1.52. It had been factory reset, everything gone, profiles the lot. Sadly it didn’t fix it and I’ve had to stop using CarPlay which has really p***** me off. I have used CarPlay since it was launched and it is a deal breaker for me not having it working. NB, my phone works perfectly with CarPlay in my other cars,

Nothing from Volvo CS, they listen, apologise, but can offer no fixes. Any advice from users here for a fix gratefully received.

On the +ve, my glove box now opens occasionally, I think it is because we have warmer weather in the UK.
