So Volvo's old, home-made, system was better than the might of Google's Android Automotive!
Who says technology is always improving?
Adapt to Speed Limit
Ok, so now I feel like a total idiot! After days of trying to get the ACC to adapt to the speed limit, failing and getting frustrated and even writing a longgggggg email to Volvo support….I realise that the “adapt to speed limit” needs to be turned on in the pilot assist menu. I’m going out to try it now, thanks all!
By the way can anyone find this small detailed instruction in th user manual….because I can’t

The "manual" is the worst manual I have ever seen in my life.
It just describes some things that the car can do and generally tells you that they can be activated, deactivated, adjusted etc in "settings". No details of how or where.
You really need to keep opening settings and explore its sub-menus and see what's there ,and try changing stuff to see what happens.

If only all the other driver aids had to be enabled rather than active by default.
Yes Geoff! If only! It’s sooooo annoying. And the new Home Screen having them on there, but greyed out, just adds insult to injury. You have to engage drive, then the new screen disappears and you have to go through the same process you always did to get rid of the ‘aids’.

Very true, but the regulations clearly direct that they must be on by default for every journey.
The annoying thing is that Volvo have interpreted every journey to mean every time the drivers door is opened when the vehicle is in P.

I’m curious to know what speed you have the ACC set to? And do the speed alert bongs work?
Twin Motor Performance Ultra - Vapour Grey/Indigo
The adapt to speed will only reduce speed from a set point, it won’t increase speed above the set point regardless of the limit. Say you are travelling at 50kph in a 60kph limit and activate ACC, the car will stay at 50kph and when it sees a 30kph sign it should slow to 30kph. If the limit then changes to 80kph the car will only increase speed up to the 50kph set point.
That’s how it’s supposed to work but for me the car seldom knows what the limit is and it never sees the derestriction sign. It’s just another useless and potentially dangerous feature the car has, hence the plethora of warnings that the driver must always retain control – while searching through numerous menus trying to find the button to turn something off that the car has turned on.

With uk road signs I am finding it works ok-ish.
I mainly use it on the motorway, and the stretch I drive regularly has several 50mph sections. It does see and read the signs but unfortunately it only starts slowing to 50 immediately after the sign (where the speed camera is!) so it’s pretty hopeless in that situation. Similarly it only starts accelerating back to 70 after the national speed limit sign which is technically correct, but much more conservative than the average driver.
