Update 1.4.2 released
There are a lot of apps available on the iPhone (and therefore through CarPlay that are not available on the car’s OS. For example, bbc sounds isn’t available in the car but can be accessed and controlled through CarPlay as if you were using it on your phone. Another example is the iPhone podcast app and, I am sure, many others. It may also be easier to use the likes of Spotify or Audible via your phone and CarPlay rather than the EX30 apps.Geoff wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 3:19 pmI’m still struggling to understand what CarPlay does that the car doesn’t already do but I suppose I won’t be forced to use it and if it makes (quite) a few people happy… Good to know it can be toned down to be more grown up.soundsgood wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 2:56 pmOnly the overview was shown in the screenshots. When you swipe, the respective apps get the whole screen. You can also change the color - more subtle, gray or black and white.Geoff wrote: ↑Wed Sep 04, 2024 12:51 pm I have an iPhone and an iPad and consider Apple products to be good quality. However, I have never used CarPlay and don’t know what it is, but the screen shots look like a child has been let loose with some colourful crayons. And the Satnav screen is half the normal size.
What I would find useful is for one of the virtual buttons to open the glove box, open the boot etc could be used to turn on the fog lights.
This is how it works with all other CarPlay versions, it would be interesting to see if Volvo also supports the EV mode, then AppleCarPlay also does the charging plan. However, I currently find the CharingingTime app quite good. It only shows the charging stations on the planned route, with a corresponding filter for the charging point.

Ah. Ups. Ok. I thought it was the new look of the 1.4.2. and I was absolutely scared. Never seen Apple Car Play and didn't recognize this images. My Fault.
The rating of my Apple products is... Really good. Good processors, good hardware, good ecosystem, very good designers and even the best marketers. If I don't like something about Apple, is its philosophy/environment and many things in its User Interface (I mean Macs and iPhones, I don't know iPads or ACPlay, as seen). But it's just my opinion and it would be a big discussion, which would end in nothing.

Hi all
For those worried about whether you get a good enough signal or 5G connectivity, there is always the option of WIFI. When your car is in the garage for instance (if you have off street parking), you can connect to your Home WIFI. This will allow you to get access to a quick download of v1.4.2 when it becomes available.
The way I am told it works is that it deploys updates in tranches to take burden off their OTA servers. I imagine its based off groups of VINs (per Country basis).

I'm not sure updates can be received via Wifi but I'd have to do a trawl on the Volvo Facebook Forum to find the answer.
