I have just seen this:

Looks like we will all be getting a OTA software update soon.

Maybe it will fix a few other issues too.

How can an OTA update be called a recall???
Likely a media sensationalism from a US publisher subtly supporting the US war against Chinese electric cars. :o

Following this interpretation we actually had already one or two recalls...

Found this in Australia...

It seems some people would also have received a communication from Volvo in Germnay.

I think its called a recall as it involves fixing something which may have a bearing on safety or legal compliance - ie an update which is legally necessary, not an optional update (also one which must be notified to vehicle regulators in many countries).

I see that this one is because the car can sometimes go into speedometer test mode on start up. Did this mean the speedo gave the driver incorrect information?

I remember a while ago there was a thread that sometimes the speedometer was in middle of the infortainment screen instead of being on the drivers' side. Was this the bug in action?

The fault relates to the display going into test mode on start up.

It happened to me 3 days after purchase in March. It resolved itself after 10 mins or so , however I’d already contacted assist and recovery was on its way. Only happened that one time in 2 months of daily driving.

From what I understand, the car can still be driven blind with no display !!

1.3.1 fixes it

Volvo published this recall in the EU already on 21 May, so about 20 days ago.

Once a recall has been published, its solution should be made available to clients soon.

For what regards the European Union, the General Product Safety Regulation is applicable:
REGULATION (EU) 2023/988 OF THE EUROPEAN PARLIAMENT AND OF THE COUNCIL
of 10 May 2023

Article 37

Remedies in the event of a product safety recall

1. Without prejudice to Directives (EU) 2019/770 and (EU) 2019/771, in the case of a product safety recall initiated by
an economic operator or ordered by a national competent authority, the economic operator responsible for the product
safety recall shall offer the consumer an effective, cost-free and timely remedy.

So we shoud expect the new fixing update in a short time.

This recall was the reason v1.3 was temporarily halted and replaced with v1.3.1 which includes the fix to the test mode of the display. As I understand it if you have the software version v1.3.1 the recall does not apply

Actually the 1.3.1 version release was on 30 April, before the recall notice...

But on top of that, I'm not fully convinced that the solution has been the 1.3.1, as in its release notes there's absolutely nothing about the correction of the issue at the base of the recall.
Improvements and bug fixes

Bug fixes that do not affect performance or other certified properties.

Welcome MarkCadby to this forum.

I'm thinking like you're thinking. My car hasn't exhibited the problem.

Volvo may have included it in 1.3.1 before the recall notice was publicised?

I had the 1.3 version for almost a month and never run across the issue.

Generally speaking, this is one of the oddities of the EX30: why some cars have issues and some don't?
