Observations:
* Very good camera quality.
* Seems to fit the EX30 exactly (looks like the model is shared with the Smart #1)
* The rear-view-mirror cover that needs removing has two annoying clips in the centre that sort of need to be pushed inwards to get the thing off
* It's the green plug that needs undoing, it has a clip that you have to press in to disconnect
* You can fairly easily run the wires up the back panel and avoid running them over the boot plastic
* You want to position the camera right on the will-it-fit plastic not the top of the back window. To start with I had it on the glass and the copper there is the DAB aerial which gets even worse reception if you put it there!
* I ran the wiring down the left hand side. Note the back window has the aerial and the camera does interfere if you have the radio playing (on a weak station) and move the camera close to the aerial wires on the glass the radio cuts out...

Hello.

Can you tell me how to remove the rearview mirror assembly plastic? I tried and couldn't, i'm afraid i could break it

The surrounding clips undo easily, the two in the centre are harder to push. If you look at the replacement unit you can see how the clips are oriented.
I think I pushed the clips inward quite firmly with the smudge while pulling at it / applied sideways torque to get it to loosen and come undone. It was a real pain, not sure if anyone has any better advice.

I contacted FitcamX early January 2024 if they already had a dashcam for the EX30. Their reply was they didn’t but are willing to consider and asked me for some car details and pictures. It took some time before they replied but they were interested and asked me if Incould send them the casing of the rearview mirror and a schema of the wiring. Through my Volvo workshop I ordered the casing and received the witing schema so FitcamX could develop the EX30 cam. Some time later I recieved the 3D printed concept model and I was asked to test fit and test run it. All with good result.
Mid July I ordered the front and rear cam and I must say I am very happy with the final production version. Front and rear cam are so easy to install and give a great view.

I just used the blue tool all the way around the edge and the ‘brute force and ignorance’ for the last 2 :). Just yanked it. I appreciate this is probably not the best way but I assumed it has to be reasonably robust in case of a new windscreen fit or whatever.
It was all ok.

First of all HUGE HUGE thank you to @jblackburn - your notes and photos have been invaluable - really many, many thanks.
Also - yes, the video of the Smart #1 shows installation into the rain sensor - not the auto-dimming mirror, so yes, ignore the video - it's the green clip you need to undo and use the supplied green connector and y-cable.

Unfortunately - I've not had the same experience as others. This has to be one of the toughest things I've ever done. I'm exhausted.

I'm glad people have found installation OK - and now I have it powered the quality is great and the OEM feel is fantastic, so I'm not at all blaming the camera or fitcamx at all - and anyone reading shouldn't be set against it. But yes, the bending of plastic and marks made by the blue tool, as well as clips not coming undone etc etc has been so frustrating. It also doesn't help that the car is brand new and on PCP, so every crack, clip or ripping sound brings me out in a cold sweat.

The hardest part was removing the rear-view mirror casing. @ex30bap asked if there were any tips to getting that off. I spent a LONG time battling with this - but as @no_ngins said it's brute force I'm afraid.
Much like the fitcamx part, there are two triangular clips. Unfortunately, they clip into solid rectangular blocks, so there's nothing to actually push or click.

However, they're not flat on the bottom - they are angled, so as long as you pull downwards evenly, they will eventually come out. I too was terrified of snapping them off - but they did eventually come out.
Here's a picture of what they look like:

ex30-hook-1.jpg

So just a good pull should dislodge them.

So, I have the front part installed and working. That seems to be great. But the wiring to the back has been problematic and I have an issue with the boot area.
I've just admitted defeat after day 2 of trying. I ran out of daylight.

I've fallen at the last hurdle with my installation unfortunately. I CANNOT for the life of me get the "Will it Fit" plastic plate off, nor can I get the grommets out from where the cable will go up between the chassis and the boot lid. I managed to unclip the Will it Fit along the glass edge, but there's something in the middle holding it and I cannot get it to budge.

Can anyone suggest any tips with the Will it Fit thing? It's the last piece of the puzzle and I'm stumped!

The will it fit plastic unclips around the edges - including the *bottom edge* before the centre clips unclip. I think the photo I took above shows the clips. Recommend having a go around the bottom edge, once that’s up it comes off relatively easily (easier than the front camera anyway :) ).

Agree it’s not easy - had my dad helping and he’s pretty handy…

Have a look at the clips on the back end of the will it fit plastic. ^

Also put a cloth / paper towel between the smider and the glass to avoid grazing. Though the plastic marks do wipe off.

Not yet, but I’m tempted to purchase the ‘Front 4K+ Rear 1080P+ 128G’. I asked Geelyevs for details of the rear camera a couple of days ago and I’m still waiting for a reply, hopefully it’s no worse than the others pictured here.
Incidentally, I’m really surprised that some people seem to be happy with visible clips and connectors and cables trailing all over the place.
