Remote unlocking using EX30 phone app

Success!! I can now lock/unlock the car using the app.
EX30 software version 1.31. Volvo Android app version 1.4.
When I tried to unlock using the app, I was redirected to a new page suggesting I setup a SCREEN LOCK. I was then given the choice of PIN, SWIPE, PATTERN etc. I chose PIN. Now using the app, when I try to unlock the car, I just have to enter my PIN. No PIN required to relock.

Think others have already replied.
There is a setting in "App settings" Security. You can turn this on or off depending if you would like 'authentication for sensitive functions' the app just asks for you phone pin, finger print or face ID.
I've found that it work a bit slowly. I hope the google/apple payment style option on your phone (opening the car by holding you phone on the door pillar) is going to be much more useful when they release that function.

The SCREEN LOCK feature requires me to enter my PIN every time I look at my phone!! WHAT A PAIN! It gave me a lot of grief today until I found how to turn it off. I shall definitely NOT be using my phone to unlock the car. The key card/key fob is just fine.

The pin/sequence/etc. screenlock protection mode is required for other functionalities, for ex. for contactless payments using the phone.
Moreover, if you have installed apps that can use fingerprint authentication, like bank apps, to be able to record your fingerprints you have first to activate a screenlock protection mode.
Ops, I'm speaking about Android phones, iPhones don't have fingerprint sensors....
Anyway, phone access protection is nowadays recommended, but there are also other methods for automatically unlocking your phone, depending on the phone model: facial recognition, proximity with certified bluetooth devices like smartwatches.
Moreover, if you have installed apps that can use fingerprint authentication, like bank apps, to be able to record your fingerprints you have first to activate a screenlock protection mode.

I tried unlocking using my phone today and it worked fine. Then, because we hadn't opened a door, it locked again. Still fine.
Went to use phone again to unlock but the App had logged me out and needs an emailed code to log back in. For my emails that can take up to five minutes to receive that code.....
Wouldn't be very happy if I was standing in the rain trying to unlock the car!!!

Maybe the Volvo app is somehow different from one country to another, or the app has compatibility problems with some phone models.
In my case never had to login again in the app after the initial account creation (1 month ago), locking and unlocking the car from the app have never failed.
Anyway my phone lockscreen is password protected.
If app issues occur, it would be useful to know the phone model and the operating system version.

For the system to work, both car and phone need to be connected to the internet. If the car is parked in an area where either has no coverage, then we can't use the phone to unlock the car. This is not a fault of Volvo's but simple geography. The ability to unlock the car by phone app should really only be regarded as a rather unreliable fall back tool.
Once NFC unlocking (working in the same manner as NFC card payments) and NFC ignition authority ( to allow us to drive the car using the phone as an ignition key as well as a door lock key) becomes available phone unlocking will be really useful.
Until then, in my opinion, not worth the time or trouble thinking about.
