I was also looking into this type of mount, and I came across a Toyota forum where they were discussing this system (Toyota forums are packed with a lot of people), and my conclusion was: "Don't use it." Apparently, the hinges and the bodywork and paintwork itself suffer quite a bit, although the worrying thing was the hinges. This was mentioned by users who started using it and ended up with a roof mount (the fewest) or with the very expensive installation of the tow bar and associated mounts. So I ruled it out. My bike trips on the trunk without the front wheel. Not perfect but solved the problem...almost

I wouldn't use such a bike carrier either. A bike is often heavier than you think anyway, and I don't think the tailgate is designed to handle it.
