I had an issue a couple of weeks ago that is worth sharing. I attended a 10-day meditation course, and when it was completed, I jumped into EX30. The car unlocked, the screen lit up, and the battery remained at 75%. Great, I thought, but I was a bit concerned because it was the longest time I had left the car not connected to an external charger.

I put the car into reverse, but my heart fell as a system error was reported, and the car reverted to park. I stuffed around switching the car off and on and rebooting the centre console. No improvement.

I gave up and called Volvo support; they had a local car breakdown service there in a couple of hours. The mechanic who turned up had never worked on an EX30 before. He had worked on other EVs before and thought it might be a problem with the 12V battery. I didn't realise it had a standard 12V battery and a lithium traction battery.

He removed the cover under the bonnet to expose the 12V battery, then connected a standard 12V battery jump starter, similar to https://no.co/gbx45; as soon as it was connected, something clicked and hummed, and the car was good to go.

My assumption is that during the 10 days, the 12V battery drained to a level too low to enable some vehicle systems, e.g., the system that uses the traction battery to charge the 12V battery.

I now have a charged portable jump starter in the car, just in case ;) I hope Volvo fixes this bug in future software updates.

I hope so too, have you told Volvo about the problem?

My experience:
left my EX30 unattended in my garage for about 35 days during my vacation at the summer house.
Left the main battery at about 60% as recommended.
Left the car locked with the front windows opened.
After few days I received a funny warning message on the app informing that as rain was coming then the windows were automatically closed !!!
When finally back the EX30 was at 55% and after recharged to 80% it resumed smoothly without any issue.

Any EX30 owner could do with a 10 day meditation course!
Yes the acid 12 volt battery still won’t die.
My Model 3 had one and my EV9 does.
No ideas why, they are big and heavy and unreliable!

Left mine unplugged for 12 days at 70% charge when I was overseas. No issues.

Left mine for 2 weeks, unplugged in an airport car park for 2 weeks at 40%. Still at that percentage when I drove it to a Tesla charger and charged to 80%. No problem at all.

Silly question, but did you make sure your door was fully shut when attempting to go into reverse? As if it wasn’t, it would go back into park.

The car went into some sort of hibernate mode, I forgot to add.
