Just sharing what happened last night

The car had been parked up for a few hours after use. On returning the car unlocked in the usual way with the auto function on the key tag. Greeting lights all came on, heating system started up, all go so far. Noticed that the display wasn’t lighting up properly, again no panic as it was the first time I’ve used the car in the dark.

Now it gets interesting. Closed the door and the screen started cycling through lots pretty colours, flashing on and off. The car won’t boot up all ,totally unresponsive . The lights and heating remained on, which was just as well as it was cold and dark. Tried locking/unlocking, pressing what buttons I could, nothing

10 minutes spent with this, needing to get home. Contacted Volvo assist hoping that I’d get some instruction - none given, but recovery arranged.

Locked up the car and went away to wait. In fairness, recovery arrived 30 mins after calling.

On walking back to the car , it unlocked and you’ve guessed it, it booted up. It drove perfectly . Will contact Volvo for a diagnostic.

So, it appears to happen more often and is thus also(!) a software bug. :x

Thank you for that. Silver lining is that I’m not the only one with the issue and that there is a short term fix that I can do

Reset display is the fix until the bugs get squished

“simultaneously press and hold the decrease set speed and decrease volume buttons on the steering wheel until the display changes “

Welcome to this forum.

Several others have reported problems with the screen "cured" as you've noted by a reboot. Volvo Assist should have told you how to do that!

I've also seen a photo or video of the rainbow screen.
