EX30 "Problemettes"

So enjoying my EX30 single motor extended range but have a few queries and problems I've found. Anyone else have this.

1. Saving of settings/last config. This doesn't appear to work (at all) or at least in the same was as my XC60. In the XC60 it remembers the last settings such as heated seats on or off, heated steering wheel, last set temperature etc. On the Ex30 it for whatever reason defaults to having the heated steering wheel on Level 3 every time I start the car - which is fine in winter, but in summer will be annoying. Also things like Lane guidance - in the XC60 I can turn this off and it remembers its off, the EX30 defaults to always having it on. It would be good if it could remember this stuff!

2. Radio fades in and out - I think this is possibly just when driving at slow speeds around town as the EV music (not sure what it's really called) seems to kick in at around 10-15mph, but you can't really hear it inside the car you just notice the radio volume fades right down. This might be by design but it's really annoying when driving around town to have the radio fade so low.

3. Then somethings are promised as OTA updates - be good to have a better timeline than just 1st half 2024 - in particular I'd like Apple CarPlay and also Apple Car Key!

Anyway that's my main gripes so far.

One happy owner who has experienced a few niggles

1) Heated steering wheel keeps switching on at No3 setting. Eventually turns off, dealer thinks its triggered by outside temperature but as heated seats do not switch on I think something else is going on.

2) Home charging (7kw) defaults to minimum load giving excessive charge time. Each time you have to go to charge settings and set to 32amp. However I notice there is an option to deactivate the load protection. I have done this and will check the next time I charge.

3) The apps loading function did not initially work but after 3 days they appeared and Spotify have been loaded and working well.

4) Keys are a pain, Keycards work but need to be placed to allow car to start. Key tag is not reliable, sometimes wont lock car and had to resort to mobile app to lock door. A key fob with buttons would be preferable.

Car drives extremely well and an upgrade on my BMWi3

The steering wheel heating being on is initiated automatically by a low outside temperature. There is a setting to be able to turn that off.

I haven't heard of a similar setting for the heated seats.

There have been a lot of internet-connection issues.

Others have reported issues with DAB radio dropping out when the brake pedal is pressed but the volume going up and down hasn't been mentioned. The indicator sound was too quiet on my test drive and others have noted that too, so perhaps Volvo can turn it up a bit.

Interestingly we've heard "second-hand" that as well as CarPlay becoming available - potentially 1 April 2024 by OTA - Volvo are also developing Android Auto capability which will get over the minimal nature of app availability in AAOS. That will be a few months off though. Volvo haven't yet issued confirmation despite being asked.

Several people have reported issues with intermittent Key Tag locking/unlocking activation. I only had my test drive car for an hour but did test it several times prior to knowing this was an issue, and the one I had seemed to be very consistent in working as expected.

Any update on the slow charging?

I tried to charge mine for the first time last night and it maxed out at 1kw adding a measly 6% overnight.

Other issues I have found;

- boot only opened half way. Turns out you can set the height by pressing and holding the boot close button.
- clock set itself to totally the wrong time and I have had to manually set it
- the car’s ability to work out what the speed limit is seems suspect and I am constantly getting pinged when it thinks I am in a 30mph zone which is actually national speed limit
- autodim headlights switch off when light is reflected back from a roadsign

6A charging is a known problem. Dealer told me Volvo working on a fix. As a workaround set the charge rate manually to 32A. You need to check it hasn't defaulted back to 6A each time you charge.
I also have a similar experience with speed limit info. I'm guessing this is due to the fact my car has no internet/Google maps data so relies solely on camera reading road signs.
It sounds as though you also may not have internet connectivity if your clock is incorrect which another issue Volvo are aware of and working on a fix.
There is a setting to adjust headlamp beam which may help the dipping problem although I haven't looked at it myself.

Thanks, I’ll check the internet connectivity although my son was watching Youtube on it yesterday so I had assumed all ok.

I’ll set current to 32 amps tonight so hopefully will get a decent charge.

Managed to turn off auto heated steering wheel in settings - thanks @gloucester.

Audio dips when breaking but only in DAB, BT Audio media is fine.

No issues with charging here at least on 50kw public chargers.

Have noticed that car gets cold after about an hour despite temperature being set to 21 or 22 degrees C. Cranking it up to 26 or more warms it up - but far too much.

Auto High Beam Assist seems ok to me but a bit more sensitive compared to the XC60.

Anybody had issues connecting a second profile to the volvo ex30 app?

Tried to connect my wife’s phone by scanning the QR code but it keeps saying it can’t validate the code.
