automatic braking almost killed me

Okay so, my car almost killed me like five times now.

When driving there was a car parked on the side, it was a street where you should drive 70, but for some reason out of no where, the car signals to brake, and then brakes by itself. On a street where i was going 70 km/h the car brakes automatically because it thought we were going to collide with parked car.

A PARKED CAR.

Can you imagine how dangerous that shit ass feature is? Imagine when you drive on the highway going 120km/h and the car thinks another car next to you is going to collide with you so it brakes on itself while there are cars behind you not expecting that because there is NO DANGER??

Is there a way where i can flag this bugged feature at volvo itself? I already send them a mail with dangerous features and they responded like i was a 12yo. But i can't be the only person who went through this situation?

I hope volvo starts listening to their customers and their needs, feedback because when i get killed because the car decided to brake without any danger, that's gonna be on me because vovlo will just say she did the brake not the car.

Please volvo let me disable the option of the car braking automatically (even when there is no danger putting me in danger)

It is obvious they the system is badly out of line or set up badly.
This is not a problem but needs an expert with his equipment to re align it.
If your windscreen is replaced it has to have this done..
Dread to think of the cost..

Go down that route. That the system is faulty or needs re calibrating

The MG 4 has had as a reset I understand to stop a problem.
I read about a Merc whose system was set too low.
Every time he exited his steep drive it would slam the brakes on. Unless travelling at less than 3 mph.
A manufactures/dealers techie performed this and reset it all. No more issues.
Cheers Andy!

It's happened to me several times.
The car braked for less than a second, but it's scary because you don't expect it.
It happens mainly when cornering. It "thinks" we're going straight against the parked cars. It also happens if there are pedestrians on the sidewalk.

My car did the exact same thing on the 4th of this month - slammed the breaks in the middle of a busy roundabout on a dual carriageway (I'm in the UK) where the avg speed is 70mph and I almost got rear ended (poor chap behind me had no idea what was going on!). Never happened before when the car was on 1.5.0. Took it to the Volvo service last Monday and they said the camera is seeing something in the middle that doesn't exist which seems to be a calibration issue. Fast forward 5 days, the car is still with them. Apparently the service team has sent out all the technical information requested by Volvo but are yet to hear back about the next steps. They have, however, in the mean time deemed the car to be unsafe for driving. So, I am left with a rented car while these people take ages to figure what they can do. I bought the car (EX30 Plus SMER) in mid Feb. Absolutely frustrating. How can Volvo get such basic things wrong when they talk so boldly about safety features!
Cheers!

The human eye and brain can understand and react to out-of-the-norm circumstances much better than computers.

These systems may help safety if drivers are not concentrating - which is why they are now required by law in Europe. But they make things worse for good drivers who stay alert and actually concentrate on their driving, which let's be honest is at times a rarity (most accidents in the UK are caused by driver error and inattention, not speed, drink and drugs).

And people really want driverless cars? They may work in a few limited grid pattern cities in the USA, but in Europes chaotic and irregular road plans - to say nothing of our undesigned rural road networks - madness!

Unfortunately all of these (so called) safety features are a result of (mainly) EU legislation. Mostly (probably) written by those who don't actually drive!!!!
Forgive me for being old & cynical....... BUT I AM!!!!
And I 'teach' advanced driving......

Yep, my EX30 also has fun deciding if and when to brake. It used to be the drivers responsibility but not any more.
I couldn’t drive through my entrance gates the other day, the car decided to slam the brakes on. (They were open at the time)

I also have fun with driver assist on motorways (Scary in the UK). When I overtake my car slows down! IMO the car has not been calibrated for right hand driving and UK roads.

On the +ve, it looks nice when I clean it.

Surely one day it will happen to me, and I'll remember all its dead, but for now, it only causes me, or rather, it caused me a few months ago, phantom braking(slow down) on the highway when overtaking trucks on left-hand curves with AutoPilot engaged. But sudden braking while driving, so far in these 10 months, it hasn't caused me any, as far as I can remeber. I don't know if it's just some units or just the driving habits of each user... either way, it's an issue to be resolved.

Not sure about driving habits, could be. In my case, I drive gently and hardly overtake cars. The day it happened, I was in the left lane going straight ahead at around 27mph, driving steadily and not accelerating. I somehow feel it has to do with the software, but again that's just an assumption.
Cheers!

I’ve never had cause to raise issues with any other car forum but this car really annoys me. Self braking on straight roads as already mentioned but another one is when it decides to brake mid corner because it thinks I’m going too fast by doing 40mph around a downhill corner that then turns slightly uphill. It’s in a 50mph zone, and I could see through the corner, however I can’t think of any reason other than the sensors see the road as it starts to climb (gets closer) as an object to avoid. Annoying and dangerous
